The Saver's Credit is available to taxpayers who are:

  • 18 or older,
  • not full-time students,
  • not claimed as dependents on someone else's return,
  • and have adjusted income that does not exceed $50,000 for joint filers, $37,500 for head of household filers, or $25,000 who are filing single or married filing separately.

The amount of credit also depends on your adjusted gross income and filing status. Here's how it breaks down according to AGI and filing status:

  • Joint filers: $0-$30,000 AGI get 50 percent credit; $30,0001-$32,500, 20 percent credit; $32,501-$50,000, 10 percent credit.
  • Head of Household filers: $0-$22,500 AGI get 50 percent; $22,501-$24,375, 20 percent; $24,376-$37,500, 10 percent credit.
  • Single or Married Filing Separately filers: $0-$15,000 get 50 percent; $15,001-$16,250, 20 percent; $16,251-$25,000, 10 percent credit.
